The Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League held its first ever Prospects Game. 32 of the best U-18 players took centre stage at the Archie Browning Sports Centre on Sunday afternoon for a game which featured non-stop action.

It took 65 minutes and change for the 2010 Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League All-Star Game to be decided. Steven Schmidt scored in the second round of a three-round shootout to lift Team North to a thrilling 5-4 come from behind victory over Team South on Sunday afternoon.

Ticket mail order pre-sales are now closed. The VIJHL 2010 All-Star breakfast is now fully booked, so we will not be accepting any more breakfast ticket requests. Any requests for breakfast tickets received after January 14th, will have their cheques returned.
Mail-order requests for advance game tickets sent in, but not received by us before the deadline (Jan 15) will be filled, but not mailed out. You may pick them up at the admissions table at Esquimalt's Archie Browning arena on game day (Sunday January 24th, 2010). You may be asked for proof of identification.
People who have not purchased advance game tickets may pay $10 admission at the admissions table on game day. The All-Star game has NOT been sold out, so there are still plenty of seats for those who did not purchase advance tickets.
The All-Star game admissions table will be open at 12:00 PM, Sunday January 24th. The Prospects game will start at ~1:15 PM, followed immediately by the All-Star game (~3:30 PM)

As the host team for this year's VIJHL all-star day, I'm pleased to announce the rosters for the prospects game.
VIJHL ALL-STAR AND PROSPECTS GAME

The Victoria Cougars will be hosting the 2009/10 VIJHL all start game on Sunday, January 24 at the Archie Browning Sports Center in Esquimalt. The all star game will begin at 3:30 PM. It will be a traditional North vs. South division game.
For the first time in league history, the All-Star day will also include a special prospects game at 1:00 PM.
This will be a 4-on-4 game consisting of 2 thirty minute running time periods. It promises to be an exciting, wide open game where our talented, 18 and under prospects can showcase their skills in front of Junior A, Major Junior, and College scouts. This game will also be a North vs. South game.
Admission is $10 per person, and it covers both the Prospect and All star games. Tickets can be purchased in advance at any Cougars regular season game. To order tickets by mail, please send a letter requesting the number of tickets, a cheque to cover payment, and a self addressed, stamped envelope to:

The all-star day will start out with a 10:30 breakfast banquet at the beautiful and spectacular Pacific Fleet club. The MC for the event will be Pat Thomas from Jack 103.1 FM and 98.50 the Ocean. The players will then be treated to a special presentation from Olympic Gold medalist Brian Price. A very limited supply of additional banquet tickets can be purchased for $25 by January 15th, 2010.
Look for the he prospects rosters to be announced on the league website by Dec 15, and the all-star rosters to be announced by January 03.

The VIJHL 2009-10 R.S. schedule was released today. As in previous years, the 192 game schedule is unbalanced, with each team playing other teams within the division eight times and teams in the other division six times. The season begins on Thursday Sept. 10th at Esquimalt's Archie Browning Arena, where the Saanich Braves will meet the Victoria Cougars in the season opener.

The VIJHL Champion Oceanside Generals are thrilled to announce that our franchise has been chosen to host the 2010 Cyclone Taylor Cup April 1-4 2010. The entire community of Oceanside will roll out the red carpet to ensure that this will be one of the most memorable CTC's in history. We are very proud to be given this great honor in hosting such a high level tournament as well we are very excited to have the chance to compete for the Cyclone Taylor Cup Championship and a Provincial title in 2010.

Peninsula Panther Sale Approved

The Governors of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League have approved the sale of the Peninsula Panthers Junior Hockey Club by current owner John Wilson to the Penny family. One of the principals of the Penny family is Jackson,the current General Manager of the Victoria Grizzlies.
It is felt that the Penny family will continue with the tradition of success that the Panthers, their fans and the VIJHL have come to expect.While welcoming the Penny family, the League extends a sincere thank you to the Wilson family for their contributions to the VIJHLover these past several seasons.
