Player of the Week - OWEN CHRISTENSEN - Campbell River Storm

By Mark Berry – Storm HockeyTV Play-by-play

There’s no question that Owen Christensen, known as O.C. by the Brindy faithful, is off to a great start to his final junior hockey season. After 2 weeks of play, he’s found the back of the net six times; teamed up with his line-mates of Josh Pederson and Dylan Franklin, they present a formidable force.

“I’ve felt very good out there,” says Owen on his start. “It’s been a bit weird with no fans, but honestly, I’m just excited to be out on the ice with my teammates.”

Now into his third VIJHL season, the Alternate Captain has played a total of 97 games for the Storm (regular season, playoffs and Cyclone Taylor Cup) earning 74 points (40 goals, 34 assists).

Gavin Rauser, Storm Assistant Coach, speaks highly of his 6’0, 175 lbs, speedy forward, “OC’s a guy that’s really stepped up this year in terms of leading by example and showing what it means to wear the Storm logo.” Coach Rauser continues, “His competitive edge is contagious around the room so it’s great to see him and his line get off to a good start.”

OC grew up in North Vancouver and played most of his minor hockey with the North Shore Winter Club with the exception of a year of Elite 15’s at the Burnaby Winter Club and one season in Major Midget with the Vancouver NW Giants.

The goal for the year is clear, a VIJHL Championship says OC. “The boys are ready. We look like a good team with a lot of motivated returnees and some very talented new players. We went from a young team to an experienced team in one year.” Number 19 adds, “I’m excited to play my final year of junior hockey with this group of guys.”

What about beyond this season? Owen is keeping it simple for now, “After the season, I’m taking my Tacoma (Toyota truck) across Canada and camping wherever I stop.” There’s a lot of hockey between now and then with little doubt that the young man from North Vancouver will figure prominently in his team’s success.
