Campbell River 4 Comox Valley 1
First star Koen Gauthier and second star Ethan Hill both had a goal and two assists to power the Campbell River Storm to a 4-1 victory over the Comox Valley Glacier Kings in their VIJHL season opener Saturday night in front of 593 fans at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.
Third star Aidan Yu and Dublin McGuire and Aidan Yu had the other Storm scores as the visitors led 1-0 and 4-0 by periods, and received a 29 save effort from netminder Mason Hillier.
Tee Hagel on a power play 11 seconds into the third period had the Comox Valley goal, and Anthony Ganoung finished with 31 stops in the Glacier Kings net.
Port Alberni 5 Oceanside 2
Third star Joel Dorn tallied twice to help the Port Alberni Bombers soar to a 5-2 win over the host Oceanside Generals as 505 spectators watched at Oceanside Place.
Port Alberni led 2-1 and 3-1 by periods, and their other goals came from Daniil Kupstov, Kyle Mori and Bogdan Rogushkin. Ethan Losier picked up the win in net with 36 saves.
Schafer Gibbs and Jacob Bate had the Generals markers, and Oceanside backstop Donato Padula had 28 stopss. Daxx Melenka was named first star and Cruze Campbell second.
Peninsula 4 Kerry Park 2
Peninsula Panthers led 2-1 and 3-2 by periods and held on to best the Kerry Park Islanders 4-2 at Kerry Park Area.
Panthers goals came from Zephyr Harms, Wyatt Martel, Casey Raven and Luka Preweda, with Nichola Smelser holding the fort with 40 saves. Brenden Reeve had an assist and was named first star of the contest.
Third star Wade Enger and Bryn Studney-Amos scored for the Islanders, and Alex Doyer stopped 24 shots and was selected as the second star.
