Jussi Saarni scored his second goal of the game at 3:46 of overtime to give the host Victoria Cougars a 3-2 win over the Nanaimo Buccaneers in Thursday night VIJHL action with 125 spectators watching at Archie Browning Arena.
First star Anthony Wilson had the other goal for Victoria, (22-14-6) which now has 50 points, four points back of Westshore for third place in the South Division. Third star Joseph Melichar had an assist for the Cougars, who had Jesse Pye and Ryder Lally combine for 32 saves in the cats cage. Victoria led 1-0 after the first and the second period ended in a 1-1 tie.
Baden Pazdzierski and Gavin Munro had the goals for Nanaimo (15-22-4-2) which moved to 36 points, three back of fourth place Comox Valley in the North Division. Darian Feser made 22 stops in the Bucs net, and Kenneth Boychuk had an assist and was named second star of the contest.
