Westshore Wolves scored all of their goals in the second period and rode a 35 save performance from first star goalie Dryden Demelo to take a 3-1 victory over the Victoria Cougars in Sunday VIJHL action in front of 310 fans at Archie Browning Arena.
Second star Zion Lavoie, Jareden Kurvers and Clay Spencer had the goals for the Wolves (22-7-4-1), with Brandon Smith scoring for Victoria (15-13-5) in the first period. Jacob Bernardo of the Cougars had an assist and was the game’s third star, and netminder Jesse Pye made 25 saves.
Peninsula 6 Lake Cowichan 4
Peninsula Panthers scored three times in the third period, including the last two goals of the game, to best the Lake Cowichan Kraken 6-4 in a back-and-forth contest at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena.
Second star Alex Sajan had two goals and an assist, while Carson Harris, Lukas Preweda, Brendan Williams and Ethan Lingard had the other markers for Peninsula, which strengthened their grip on top spot in the South Division with 56 points on a 27-3-2 record. Panthers goalie Jacob Walsh made 20 saves on the night.
First star Aleksander Leonelli, third star Gellert Kiss-Molnar, Charles Fleming and Bevin Williams were the goal scorers for Lake Cowichan (13-19-2-1), which trailed 2-1 after the first period with the second frame ending in a 3-3 tie. Tanner Ferrill stopped 25 shots in the Kraken cage.
