First star Oskar Aitken Salmons scored twice to help the Peninsula Panthers punch their ticket to the second round with a 6-2 win over the Westshore Wolves in Monday night VIJHL South Division semi-final playoff action with 227 fans watching at the Panorama Recreation Centre in Sidney.
Following a 1-1 first period tie, Peninsula scored five straight goals enroute to taking the best-of-seven series in five games. They now await the winner of the Victoria Cougars and Kerry Park Islanders match-up, which is tied 2-2 with game 5 slated for Tuesday in Mill Bay.
Second star Lukas Preweda had a goal and an assist, with the Panthers’ other goals coming from Ben Swan, Alex Sajan and Joe Marranzino, with third star Jacob Caron picking up two assists. Hunter Farrer picked up the win with 28 saves.
Jackson Campbell and Dylan Hoskins were the Westshore goal scorers, and netminder Dryden Demelo stopped 26 shots.
In Tuesday evening’s other contest in Courtenay, the Port Alberni Bombers, which leads the North Division semi-final 3-0, can eliminate the Comox Valley Glacier Kings with a victory.
