Comox Valley 3 Victoria 4
Victoria never trailed but held off a three-goal Comox Valley rally in the third period and the host Cougars hung on for a 4-3 VIJHL victory over the visiting Glacier Kings before 104 fans at Archie Browning Arena.
First star Kelton Shinde led the Cougars with a goal and two assists, with Joseph Melichar, Luke Reinhart and Anthony Wilson into an empty net had the other markers for Victoria (15-12-5), which led 1-0 and 2-9 by periods and received a 29 save effort from second star, netminder Jesse Pye.
Sheldon Alexander tallied twice and Ryan Harris once for Comox Valley (14-17-3), while goalie Aaron Pichette stopped 33 shots and was named third star of the contest.
Oceanside 3 Westshore 5
Westshore Wolves had goals from five different players and led all the way while marching to a 5-3 decision over the Oceanside Generals at Juan de Fuca Arena, where 104 people took in the game.
Second star Maguire Williamson, Liam Donovan, Lucas Dionne, Kaden Ryan and Sam Spring were the marksmen for the Wolves (21-7-4-1), with first star Wyatt Taron adding two assists in the game they led 2-1 after the second period, following a scoreless first frame. Dryden Demelo blocked 26 shots in the Wolves cage.
Logan Lough, Ryken Lay and Grady Dragani had the goals for Oceanside (5-24-3), and third star Alexandre Alhaj had two assists. Josh Nuttall made 36 saves in the Generals net.
Kerry Park 4 Campbell River 0
Ethan Barron stopped all 45 shots he faced to earn the shutout and first star honours as the Kerry Park Islanders calmed the host Campbell River Storm 4-0 in front of 618 spectators at Rod Brind’Amour Arena.
Carson Brown scored the eventual game winner midway through the first frame, with the other goals for the Islanders coming from second star Brody Lindal, who had a goal and two assists, Matson Waring and Jobey Pearson. Benjamin Stocks was the third star for Kerry Park (22-6-2-1), which enabled Kerry Park to keep pace with Westshore in second spot in the South Division standings with 47 points, although the Islanders have two games in hand.
Luc Gravel had 21 saves between the pipes for the Storm, which remains in top spot in the North Division with 48 points on a 22-8-4 record.
Lake Cowichan 5 Peninsula 2
A stellar 45 save, first star effort from goalie Tanner Ferrill helped the Lake Cowichan Kraken claw out a 5-2 win over the Peninsula Panthers in front of 299 faithful at Panorama Recreation Center.
Lake Cowichan, 13-18-2-1 for 29 points, edged to within two points of third place Comox Valley in the North as they led 2-1 and 4-1 by periods thanks to a goal and three assist effort from third star Benjamin Bertrand, and singles from Drury Lamb, Charles Fleming, Luke Bennett and Bevin Williams.
Second star Oskar Aiken Salmons and Risto Ringma scored for Peninsula, which suffered only their third loss of the season, now at 26-3-2 for 54 points atop the South. Goalies Merik Grinaker and Jacob Walsh combined for 16 saves.
Saturday’s VIJHL games include Saanich Predators at Oceanside, Nanaimo at Comox Valley and Port Alberni at Kerry Park.
