Victoria 6 Saanich 5
A four goal eruption in the third period enabled the Victoria Cougars to claw back and take a 6-5 decision over the host Saanich Predators in front of 119 fans at George Pearkes Arena in Wednesday night VIJHL action.
Jussi Saarni had a goal and two assists and was named first star, with Mathieu Ouellette scoring twice as second star to lead Victoria (19-14-6), which trailed 1-0 and 4-2 by periods. Anthony Wilson, Kelton Shinde and Dylan Duqette had the other goals for the Cougars, with Lane Maarhuis and Ryder Lally combining for 27 saves in net.
Two goals from Elijah Kim and singles from third star Tarik Borhot, Brayden Hepburn and Maxim Simard led Saanich (10-27-3), with Ty Tanton stopping 37 shots in the Predators net.
Oceanside 0 Port Alberni 4
A pair of goals from first star Sean Richards, including the opener and eventual game winner, and a 24 save shutout from netminder Evan Grant, the game’s third star, enabled the Port Alberni Bombers to soar to a 4-0 victory over the Oceanside Generals before 238 people at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
Jaxon Hinchey was the other Bombers’ player to beat second star, Oceanside goalie Josh Nuttall, who finished with 52 saves. Leim Smith added an empty net goal in the last minute to seal the victory. Port Alberni is now 24-11-4, and Oceanside 8-28-4.
Comox Valley 5 Westshore 3
First star Austin Montgomery-Parsons fired two goals to lead the Comox Valley Glacier Kings to a 5-3 decision over the Westshore Wolves at the Q Centre.
Comox Valley led 1-0 and 2-1 by periods, and had their other goals from Cohen Kallin, Mason Windsor and Jaxen Davidson into an empty net, with Zaya Morro picking up third star honours with an assist. Aaaron Pichette stopped 27 shots for the win in the Yeti net.
Second star Parker Atkinson had a goal and two assists, with Kansys Seney and Adam Gillberg also scoring for Westshore, with goalie Dryden Demelo blocking 28 pucks.
Comox Valley (17-20-3), caught Lake Cowichan for third place in the North Division with 37 points, but hold a game in hand. Westshore is third in the South with a 24-10-5-1 mark.
