Lake Cowichan 2 Oceanside 1 (OT)
Kananga Mangala scored an unassisted goal at 6:27 of overtime to give the Lake Cowichan Kraken a 2-1 win over the Oceanside Generals in Friday night VIJHL action before 340 plans at Oceanside Place.
After a scoreless first period, second star Kane Law pushed Oceanside ahead 1-0 midway through the sandwich frame before Laroslav Morozov made it 1-1 for the Kraken, and it remained tied at the end of the second and third periods. Myles Gordon was almost flawless, stopping 44 of 45 shots in the Kraken cage and was named third star of the contest.
Generals goaltender Hunter Farrer was outstanding in blocking 47 shots to earn first star honours.
Saanich 2 Kerry Park 9
First star Rylan Davis and Carson Brown each potted a pair of goals to lead the host Kerry Park Islanders to a 9-2 victory over the Saanich Predators.
Kerry Park led 2-1 after the first and 6-2 after two, and also had goals second star Colby Robinson, who added three assists for a four point night, from Cameron Lott, Jacob Morrison, Matson Waring and Benjamin Stocks. Ethan Barron made 15 saves for Kerry Park to earn the win.
Third star Jake Westhaver had both goals for Saanich, who saw goalie Ty Tanton make 28 saves in the Predators cage.
Westshore 6 Comox Valley 5
Westshore Wolves jumped out to a 4-1 first period lead and held on to edge the Comox Valley Glacier Kings 6-5 at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.
First star Parker Atkinson scored three goals for the Wolves, who also had singles from Noah Gebicki, Wyatt Taron and Clay Spencer. Zion Lavoie had four assists and was named the game’s second star. Dryden Demelo had 14 stops to record the win in between the Westshore pipes.
Comox Valley goal scorers were third star Brayden Candy with two, and Eli Charlton, Ryan Harris and Tegan Clayton with one apiece. They also received a 29 save performance from netminder Aaron Pichette.
