Peninsula Panthers scored twice on first period power plays and held on to edge the Campbell River Storm 4-3 to open up a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven VIJHL playoff championship series in before 1,010 spectators at Rod Brind’Amour Arena Wednesday night.
Brendan Williams, Oskar Aitken Salmons, Ethan Lingard and Alex Sajan with the eventual winner were the Panthers goal scorers, with Joe Marranzino adding three assists to be named second star of the contest.
First star Jacob Kulas, third star Logan Wright on a breakaway and Logan Vigneault tallied for the Storm, which trailed 3-1 and 4-3 by periods, as both teams didn’t score in the final stanza.
Both goalies were excellent, with Kaeden Serpa stopping 39 shots for Campbell River and Hunter Farrer blocking 34 for Peninsula.
Game three of the series is Friday night in Sidney at the Panorama Recreation Centre, with game four set for Saturday night back in Campbell River.
