Victoria Cougars scored the last four goals of the game to pull away from VIJHL regular season and South Division champion Kerry Park Islanders in the first game of their South semi-final playoff series Tuesday night in front of 256 fans at Kerry Park Arena.
Elijah Kim and Kelton Shinde had two goals apiece and singles came from first star Joseph Melichar, Anthony Wilson, Tarik Borhot and Jussi Saarni in the contest in which Kerry Park held a 2-1 after the first period, before Victoria pulled ahead 4-3 heading into the final frame. Ryder Lally blocked 36 pucks for the win in net.
Second star Jobey Pearson and third star Bryce Burnett had two goals apiece for Kerry Park, with Noah Stenvig stopping 25 shots in the Islanders goal.
Lake Cowichan 2 Campbell River 7
First star Dominic Grieco fired a hat trick to lead North Division champion Campbell River Storm to a decisive 7-1 win over the visiting Lake Cowichan Kraken in their North semi-final opener at Rod Brind’Amour Arena.
Maximilian Oswald had a pair of goals and singles came from Logan Vigneault and Jan-Felix Faupel for the Storm, which rode 27 saves from netminder Kaeden Serpa to 3-0 and 4-1 period leads. Maximilian Oswald was named second star with two goals and Marshall Curri, who had three assists, was the third star.
Drury Lamb and Gellert Kiss-Molnar had the Lake Cowichan tallies, with Ethan Barron blocking 31 shots in the Kraken cage.
