Kerry Park Islanders tallied three times in the third period to pull out a 5-2 win over the host Oceanside Generals in front of 568 fans at Oceanside Place in Parksville in Saturday night VIJHL play.
After a 1-1 first period deadlock, Kerry Park (29-6-3-1) led 2-1 entering the third and had goals from Nick Scott, Jacob Morrison, Carson Brown, Kyler Smith and Bailey Gorman. Max Carlson had three assists and was named the game’s third star. Carter Puska stopped 27 shots for the win goal for the Islanders, who are now three points up on Peninsula for top spot in the South Division, and have the most points of any team in the league.
First star Alexandre Alhaj and second star Ryken Lay were the Generals (8-27-4) who had 27 saves from netminder Josh Nuttall.
Peninsula 0 Port Alberni 1
Goaltender Evan Grant was outstanding with a 45 save shutout in a first star performance to lift the Port Alberni Bombers to a 1-0 victory over the Peninsula Panthers before 244 spectators at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
Second star Zach Spafford had the only goal of the game at 4:33 of the first period for Port Alberni (23-11-4). Jacob Walsh made 27 stops in net for Peninsula (28-8-2-1).
Lake Cowichan 4 Comox Valley 2
Lake Cowichan Kraken came back from a 2-0 second period deficit with three third period goals to defeat the Comox Valley Glacier Kings 4-2 with 396 watching at the Comox Valley Sports Center.
After a scoreless first period, Comox Valley had goals from Jake Gislason and third star Zaya Morro to lead 2-0 following the sandwich frame.
Bevin Williams, Cooper Barclay, and Gellert Kiss-Molnar with two – the winner and an empty netter – scored in the third for Lake Cowichan (17-21-2-1), which moved two points up on Comox Valley (16-20-3) into sole possession of third place in the North Division. Kananga Mangala had two assists and was named second star.
First star Tanner Ferrill earned the win in goal with 39 saves and Aaron Pichette blocked 28 for the Glacier Kings.
