Peninsula Panthers exploded with four goals in the third period to double the Campbell River Storm 4-2 in the first game of the best-of-seven VIJHL playoff championship series in front of 347 fans at the Panorama Recreation Centre Monday night.
After a scoreless first period, Campbell River led 1-0 after the second period before Peninsula roared ahead with four straight goals in the third.
First star Oskar Aitken Salmons, Lukas Preweda, Brendan Williams and Lucas Ananias were the Peninsula goal scorers, with Kenyan Price adding two assists to be named the second star of the contest. Hunter Farrer stopped 35 shots for the victory in the Panthers cage.
Logan Vigneault and Marshall Curri scored for the Storm, with netminder Kaeden Serpa continuing his strong playoffs with a 43 save, third star performance, including a second period stop on a penalty shot by Price.
Game two of the series is Wednesday night in Campbell River.
