Second star Brendan Williams scored in the first period and Alex Sajan in the second and the Peninsula Panthers held on to edge the visiting Westshore Wolves in the first game of their VIJHL South Division semi-final Monday night in front of 203 spectators at the Panorama Recreation Centre.
Kansys Seney scored the lone goal in the third period to cut the lead in half for Westshore, who received an outstanding 42 save performance from netminder Dryden Demelo.
Oskar Aitken Salmons scored an empty net goal with 1:34 left in the game for the Panthers, as first star Ethan Lingard had two assists and Williams added another for a two-point night as Hunter Farrer backstopped the win with 20 saves. Peninsula’s Jacob Eddy was the game’s third star.
There are two divisional semi-final opening games Tuesday night: Lake Cowichan Kraken visits the Campbell River Storm in the North Division, and Victoria Cougars at Kerry Park Islanders in the South.
