Saanich 3 Victoria 3 (OT)
First star Jussi Saarni’s goal at 1:23 of overtime gave the Victoria Cougars a 4-3 win over the visiting Saanich Predators in Thursday night VIJHL action before 247 fans at Archie Browning Arena.
Second star Anthony Wilson had a goal and an assist for the Cougars, who also had tallies from Cole Patterson and Austin Garrett in a game they led 3-1 after two frames, following a 1-1 first period tie. Jesse Pye stopped 23 shots in the Victoria net. The Cougars moved into third place in the South Division with 16 points on a 7-6-2 record.
Cole Friesen, Nick Scott and Matt Kerr were the Predators marksmen, with Jaden Vanderlee making 25 saves on the night. Elijah Kim had an assist and was named third star. Saanich fell to 4-10-2 on the year.
Oceanside 3 Nanaimo 7
Nanaimo Buccaneers erupted for five third period goals to submerge the Oceanside Generals 7-3 in front of 255 spectators at the Nanaimo Ice Center.
First star Brody Lindal and second star Baden Pazdzierski each had a pair of goals and singles came from Linden Hoskins, Wade Enger and Kenneth Boychuk as the Bucs trailed 3-2 after the second period, following a 1-1 tie after 20 minutes. Lindal added three assists and Pazdzierski two helpers, and Tristin Stephens blocked 19 shots to pick up his second straight win between the pipes for Nanaimo, which moved to 9-3 on the year in third spot in the North standings.
Carson Prescesky, Logan Lough and Peyton O’Connell were the Generals scorers, with netminder Hunter Farrer playing an outstanding game with 44 saves and was named third star. Oceanside now sits at 2-10-2 for the year.
