Comox Valley 3 Saanich 4 (OT)
First star Mathieu Ouellette’s second goal of the night at 3:29 of overtime gave the Saanich Predators a 4-3 overtime victory over the Comox Valley Glacier Kings in Friday night VIJHL action at George Pearkes Arena.
Second star Elijah Kim had a goal and two assists, while Tarik Borhot’s third period marker for Saanich sent the game into overtime. Saanich is now 7-15-2 on the year. The teams were tied 1-1 after the first frame with Comox Valley leading 3-2 heading into the third.
Ryan Harris scored twice and Quintus Mah once for the Glacier Kings, who had a 39 save effort from goalie Luca Vanzo, the game’s third star, and are now at 8-12-3 in fourth spot in the North Division.
Westshore 4 Campbell River 2
Westshore Wolves scored the final three goals of the game, including two from third star Brett Herle, as they doubled the hometown Campbell River Storm 4-2 in front of 743 fans at Rod Brind’Amour Arena.
First star Kansys Seney and Ashton Vine-Sullivan also tallied for the Wolves, who led 1-0 after the first as the teams entered the final frame tied 2-2. Dryden Demelo stopped 23 shots for the win in goal as the Wolves moved to 17-3-2-1 for 37 points, second in the South Division.
Second star Levente Birta and Logan Vigneault were the marksmen for the Storm, who had a 29 save effort from netminder Kaeden Serpa.
Oceanside 6 Lake Cowichan 5 (SO)
Shootout goals from Jackson Bostock and Sloan Kroeker enabled the Oceanside Generals to edge the Lake Cowichan Kraken 6-5 at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena.
Josh Nuttall stopped 53 shots in the Generals cage and was named the game’s first star as Oceanside had two goals each from Jordan Campbell and Jasper Fellbaum and a single from Kadin Bilajbegovic in a contest that saw the first period end in a 1-1 tie, with the hosts leading 5-4 going into the third.
Lake Cowichan goals came off the sticks of Charles Fleming, Nicolas Kalinocka, Gellert Kiss-Molnar, Laroslav Morosov and third star Bevin Williams. The second star, goalie Tanner Ferrill, stopped 27 shots in the game.
Lake Cowichan is now 6-15-2 and Oceanside 2-17-2.
Nanaimo 3 Peninsula 6
Second star Carson Harris had two goals and two assists and first star Lucas Ananias had a goal and three helpers to push the league leading Peninsula Panthers to a 6-3 doubling of the Nanaimo Buccaneers at the Panorama Recreation Centre.
Following a scoreless first period, the hosts opened up a 3-1 lead after two frames, and also had goals from Clayton Collier, Ethan Lingard and Jacob Caron, as well as a 22 save effort from Jacob Walsh in the Panthers cage.
Third star Kenneth Boychuk, Bowman Klippenstein and Wade Enger were the goal scorers for the Bucs, who had 32 saves from goalie Tristin Stephens.
Peninsula moved to 40 points on a 19-1-2 mark, as Nanaimo is in third spot in the North on 24 points and an 11-8-1 record.
