Merik Grinaker stopped all 23 shots he faced in the Panthers goal to earn first star honours while leading Peninsula to a 3-0 shutout of the Saanich Braves in VIJHL action Friday night before 205 fans at George Pearkes Arena.
After a scoreless first period, Alex Sajan opened the scoring with the eventual game winning goal in the second period and was named second star of the game. Jason Sekulich and Carson Harris scored the other goals for the Panthers, who led 2-0 after the second stanza.
Saanich netminder Ty Tanton blocked 40 pucks and was named second star.
Port Alberni 2 Victoria 4
A pair of goals from second star Kyler Smith, including the go ahead goal in the second period, enabled the host Victoria Cougars to scratch out a 4-2 win over the previously unbeaten Port Alberni Bombers before 132 fans at Archie Browning Arena.
Jesse Pye stopped 23 shots in the Cougars cage to earn first star honours. Austin Garrett and Cole Patterson had the other goals for Victoria, which held a 2-1 lead after both the first and second periods.
Sam Davidson had a goal and an assist for the Bombers, who also had a tally from Daniel Betcher, and received 23 stops from goalie Tom Forrest.
Westshore 2 Campbell River 7
Campbell River Storm unleashed a cyclone, scoring the first six goals of the game in a 7-2 victory over the visiting Westshore Wolves.
The Storm led 3-0 and 5-0 by periods, and received goals from first star Logan Vigneault, second star Jan-Felix Faupel, Dominic Grieco, Jacob Kulas, Theo Landry, Koehn Obuck and Brayden Hickling. Kaeden Serpa had 25 stops in the Campbell River goal.
Noah Gebicki and Jareden Kurvers had the tallies for Westshore, who had Dryden Demelo and James Hall combine for 37 saves in the Wolves net.

Oceanside 3 Comox Valley 6
Comox Valley Glacier Kings broke open a tight game with the final three goals of the night to double the Oceanside Generals 6-3 before 417 fans at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.
The game was tied 1-1 after the first period and Comox Valley led 4-3 after two frames.
First star Ryan Harris had two goals for the Yetis, who had single markers from second star Mathias Alhaj, Brendan Cronin, Tegan Clayton and Austin Charlton. Luca Vanzo earned the win by stopping 23 shots between the Comox Valley pipes.
Generals tallies came from Peyton O’Connell, Brodie Wade and Kane Law, with third star Jasper Fellbaum adding two assists. Josh Nuttall stopped 37 shots for Oceanside.
