Third star Cowyn Loney scored on a breakaway at 8:01 of overtime to give the Nanaimo Buccaneers a 3-2 victory over the Kerry Park Islanders in Thursday night VIJHL action before 228 fans at Nanaimo Ice Center.
First star Jaxin Karst scored the other two goals for Nanaimo (12-16-1-1), which jumped over Lake Cowichan into fourth place in the North Division while ending a 10 game losing streak.
Second star Darian Feser made 42 saves in an outstanding effort between the Buccaneer pipes, including a leg save on a one-timer and slick glove save during a Kerry Park power play in overtime.
Nanaimo led 1-0 after the first period before Carson Brown and Brody Lindal scored in the second to give the Islanders a 2-1 lead heading into the third stanza. Ethan Barron played a strong game in net for the Islanders (20-6-2-1) with 31 stops.
