Saanich 6 Oceanside 2
Saanich Predators broke open a tie game with five straight goals to march to a 6-2 defeat of the host Oceanside Generals before 536 fans at Oceanside Place in Saturday night VIJHL action.
Saanich received goals from six different players, including first star Nick Scott, third star Elijah Kim, Matt Kerr, Cole Friesen, Tarik Borhot and Matt Hicks as they led 1-0 and 3-1 by periods. Predators netminder Ty Tanton was outstanding in blocking 46 of 48 shots that came his way.
Third star Brander Lambert and Jaxin Karst tallied for Oceanside, who received a 37 save effort from goalie Josh Nuttall.
Victoria 3 Port Alberni 5
First star Sean Richards scored a goal in each period to help the Port Alberni Bombers scratch out a 5-3 victory over the visiting Victoria Cougars in front of 282 spectators at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
Zach Spafford and Jack Barrett also scored for the Bombers, who had 34 saves from second star goalie Tom Forrest, as Port Alberni led 2-1 and 4-1 by periods.
Third star Kelton Shinde scored twice and added an assist for Victoria, and Cole Patterson also tallied for the Cougars, who had goalie Jesse Pye make 21 stops on the night.
Campbell River 6 Kerry Park 9
Carson Brown scored three times in a four-point night, leading the Kerry Park Islanders to a 9-6 swamping of the Campbell River Storm at Kerry Park Arena in Mill Bay.
Kerry Park held 2-1 and 8-3 period leads, and single goals came from second star Kalan Dickie, Jacob Morrison, Nate Grinevitch, Colby Robinson and Callum Whiteway. Ethan Barron blocked 39 shots to earn the victory in the Islanders net.
Campbell River goals came from Sheldon Alexander and Logan Vigneault each with two, and Levente Birta and Theo Landry with one apiece. Kaeden Serpa and Luc Gravel combined to make 21 saves in the Storm goal.
Westshore 3 Comox Valley 0
James Hall stopped all 25 shots he faced to earn the shutout and the first star selection in a 3-0 Westshore Wolves freezing of the Comox Valley Glacier Kings at the Comox Valley Sports Center.
Clay Spencer scored twice and was named second star, with Westshore’s other goal coming from Keagan Dyer in a game they led 1-0 after the first and second frames. Aaron Pichette was sharp while making 41 saves in the Glacier Kings cage and was named third star.
