Peyton O’Connell scored his first goal of the year with less than two minutes remaining in the third period to lead the Oceanside Generals to a 4-3 victory over the host Nanaimo Buccaneers before 235 fans at the Nanaimo Ice Centre in Thursday night VIJHL action.
Oceanside never led until the game winning goal, and had single tallies from Jasper Fellbaum, who added two assists, Roman Lavery, who also had an assist, and Dylan Matthews. Kadin Bilajbegovic was named the game’s third star, and Josh Nuttall made 37 stops in the Generals goal.
Baden Pazdzierski had a goal and an assist and Linden Hoskins and second star Porter Williamson had single markers for Nanaimo, who led 3-2 after two periods following a 1-1 tie in the first frame. Brody Lindal had two assists to earn first star honours, as the Bucs had 28 saves from Darian Feser.
