Captain Ethan Lingard scored twice, including the third period winner, to give the Peninsula Panthers a 5-3 win over the Kerry Park Islanders and a sweep of their best-of-seven South Division playoff final series in front of 291 fans at the Panorama Recreation Centre in Monday night VIJHL playoff action.
Lucas Ananias, Jacob Caron and Jacob Eddy had the other goals for Peninsula, which surprised many by winning all four post-season games against the regular season South Division champion Islanders. Lingard was named second star of the game, and Lukas Preweda of the Panthers the game’s first star.
The teams were tied 1-1 and 3-3 by periods, and league scoring champion, third star Carson Brown with two and Colby Robinson with one were the Kerry Park marksmen.
Hunter Farrer was excellent again between the Peninsula pipes with 31 saves, and Carter Puska stopped 25 shots for the Islanders.
Peninsula now meets the winner of the North Division series between Campbell River and the Port Alberni Bombers, with the Storm leading the series 3-1 and game five set for Tuesday night in Campbell River.
