Nanaimo 4 Oceanside 1
Nanaimo Buccaneers held period leads of 2-0 and 3-0 before downing the host Oceanside Generals in Saturday night VIJHL action in front of 627 fans at Oceanside Place.
First star Zackael Mongeon and third star Bostyn MacDonald each had a goal and an assist for the Bucs, whose other tallies came from Port Williamson and Brody Lindal as Tristin Stephens stopped 17 shots for the victory with Nanaimo upping its record to 11-6-1 in third place in the North Division.
Second star Levi Green scored on a fine individual effort in the third period for Oceanside, who again received outstanding netminding from Hunter Farrer, who finished with 39 saves. The Generals are 2-17-2 on the year.
Victoria 2 Port Alberni 3 (OT)
Leim Smith scored at 1:32 of overtime to give the host Port Alberni Bombers a 3-2 overtime victory over the Victoria Cougars in front of 394 fans at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
After a scoreless first period, Sean Richards scored in the second to give the Bombers a 1-0 lead after two frames. First star Kai Verbrugge was the other Port Alberni marksman with netminder Tom Forrest stopping 33 shots to earn second star honours as the club moved to within one point of Campbell River Storm atop the North Division with 33 points on a 15-5-3 mark.
Cole Patterson and Jussi Saarni scored for Victoria, which had a 26 save effort from goalie Lane Maarhuis, and the Cougars are now 9-9-4.
Westshore 1 Kerry Park 5
First star Carson Brown and second star Bryce Burnett each scored a pair of goals to lead the Kerry Park Islanders to a 5-1 win over the Westshore Wolves at Kerry Park Arena.
Jacob Morrison had the other goal for Kerry Park, who had a 24 save effort from goalie Carter Puska, the game’s third star, as the Islanders moved up to 31 points at 15-4-1, two points behind the South Division’s second place team Westhore.
Zion Lavoie had the lone Wolves marker, with Dryden Demelo making 28 stops on the night in the Westshore cage.
