Saanich Predators 3 Port Alberni Bombers 2
All in front of 237 attendees, the Saanich Predators achieved only their third win of the season, handing the Bombers their fifth loss – in a tight goaltenders dual, right to the finish.
Saanich had goals from three different players – Boston Cripps, Isaiah Idisi and Mathieu Ouellette, leading the tilt at 1-0 and 3-1 after each of the first two periods.
Port Alberni players Zach Spafford and Jack Barrett racked up the goals for their side of the bout, pulling within one goal with four minutes remaining.
Then with a late game penalty and the Bombers now pushing hard during the last two minutes at six-on-four, first star Jaden Vanderlee of the Predators slammed the door shut to secure the win with a total of 37 saves.
Second star and Bombers’ goalie Damien Knackstedt stopped 31 shots in the endevour.
The third star was Sam Davidson of the Bombers.
