Standout goaltending by first star Hunter Farrer, who finished with 38 saves, led Peninsula to a 5-1 victory over the Kerry Park Islanders that gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead in their best-of-seven VIJHL South Division final playoff series Saturday night in front of 300 fans at Kerry Park Arena.
Second star Benjamin Stocks opened the scoring in the first period for Kerry Park, before Alex Sajan on a power play and Brendan Williams replied for the Panthers, who led 2-1 after the first period. Oskar Aitken Salmons scored twice, with his first in the second period and to give Peninsula a 3-1 lead heading into the final stanza, and an empty net goal to close out scoring. Captain Ethan Lingard also pumped in a power play goal late in the third.
Carter Puska blocked 34 shots in the Kerry Park net, and Jobey Pearson was named the third star of the contest.
Peninsula can clinch the series with a game four victory Monday night at home in Sidney.
