Kerry Park 9 Oceanside 1
Jobey Pearson and third star Raydon Parkes fired two goals apiece as the Kerry Park Islanders trounced the Oceanside Generals 9-1 in Saturday night VIJHL play in front of 212 fans at Oceanside Place.
Kerry Park (35-6-3-1), first place in the South Division and the entire VIJHL with 74 points, led 5-0 after the first and second periods, and also had goals from Brody Lindal, Bode Pearson, Eric Stinson, Rylan Davis and Max Carlson, with second star Adam Konowalchuk chipping in four assists. Ethan Taylor had 21 saves in the Islanders goal.
Oceanside (11-30-4) had 52 saves from Josh Nuttall and Tyler Stefano, and their goal came from Alexandre Alhaj.
Westshore 5 Port Alberni 6 (OT)
Luke Ridgway’s second goal of the game at 7:37 of overtime gave the Alberni Valley Bombers a 6-5 victory over the Westshore Wolves as 311 people watched at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
Second star Zach Spafford had two goals and first star Sam Davidson and Jack Barrett one each as Alberni led 2-1 after the first and 4-3 after the second period. Evan Grant made 32 saves during the contest.
Third star Zion Lavoie, Kaden Ryan, Kansys Seney, Parker Atkinson and Samuel Smerda scored for Westshore, with Dryden Demelo finishing with 30 stops between the pipes.
With the win, Port Alberni (28-13-4) moved to within three points of North Division leading Campbell River, with three games remaining, while the Storm has two contests left on their regular season schedule.
Campbell River 0 Comox Valley 2
First star Brigham Nye scored in the first period and added an empty net goal in the third period, and third star Aaron Pichette stopped all 28 shots he faced, enabling the Comox Valley Glacier Kings to freeze the Campbell River Storm 2-0 with 501 spectators in attendance at the Comox Valley Sports Center.
Comox Valley (19-23-3) clinched a playoff spot in the North Division and hold a one point lead over the Lake Cowichan Kraken. Both teams have two games remaining, and the fifth place Nanaimo Buccaneers can’t catch either one and will miss the playoffs.
Kaeden Serpa stopped 29 shots for the Storm and was named the game’s second star.
