Lake Cowichan 6 Port Alberni 9
Port Alberni Bombers pushed their VIJHL record to 4-0 with a 9-6 win over the visiting Lake Cowichan Kraken before 479 spectators Saturday night at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
First star Jack Barrett scored a hat trick and added an assist for a four point night, and Solstice Tennant and Kash Nicklin each had a pair of goals for Port Alberni. Sean Richards and Nathan Hayes added singles and second star Zach Spafford had three assists to lead Port Alberni, which led 3-1 and 7-1 by periods.
Lake Cowichan stormed back with five third period goals, as Charles Fleming and Brady Croft with two apiece, and Luke Bennett and third star Bevin Williams with one each were the Kraken marksmen.
Tom Forrest made 39 stops in the Bombers net, with Ethan Garland blocking 18 for the Kraken.
Victoria 5 Kerry Park 1
Victoria scored three first period goals and led 3-0 after the first and second frames in their victory over the Kerry Park Islanders at Kerry Park Arena in Mill Bay.
Carter Zeeben with two and Austin Garrett, Cole Patterson and Brandon Smith with one each were the Cougar goal scorers, with Jacob Morrison being the only Islander to beat Jesse Pye in the Victoria goal, who finished with 35 saves. Ethan Barron made 39 stops in the Kerry Park cage.
Nanaimo 1 Oceanside 0
An epic goaltending battle ended up in a 1-0 shutout win for the Nanaimo Buccaneers over the host Oceanside Generals before 621 fans at Oceanside Place in Parksville.
First star Josh Nuttall made 50 saves in the Oceanside goal, while second star Darian Feser made 34 for Nanaimo. Third star Linden Hoskins had a first period goal and eventual game winner for the Nanaimo Buccaneers, who led 1-0 after both the first and second stanzas.
Peninsula 5 Comox Valley 4
Ethan Lingard’s fourth goal of the game at 3:36 of overtime gave the Peninsula Panthers a thrilling come from behind 5-4 victory over the Comox Valley Glacier Kings at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.
Lingard was named the first star and his third goal of the game with the Panthers net empty tied the game 4-4 with less than two minutes remaining in the third period. Peninsula trailed 2-0 and 3-2 by periods before scoring the last three goals of the game, with Kenyan Price having the other goal for the Panthers, who received 24 saves from goalie Jacob Walsh.
Comox Valley Glacier Kings had two goals from second star Alexandre Alhaj and singles from Ryan Harris and Jake Gislason. A 43 save performance from goalie Aaron Pichette earned him third star honours for the night.
