Westshore 3 Saanich 2
Goaltender Dryden Demelo blocked 31 shots and earned first star honours to lead the Westshore Wolves to a 3-2 victory over the Saanich Predators before 124 spectators in Friday night VIJHL play at George Pearkes Arena.
Westshore moved to 13-2-1 on the season for 28 points, just two behind first place Peninsula Panthers in the South Division. Second star Parker Atkinson had a goal and an assist to lead the Wolves, who led 1-0 and 2-1 by periods and also had goals from Kaden Ryan and Keagan Dyer.
Saanich, at 4-12-2, had a goal from third star Maxime Simard and another from Conall Hill, with Ty Tanton stopping 25 shots in the Predators net.
Kerry Park 6 Campbell River 5 (OT)
Jobey Pearson’s third goal of the game at 6:42 of overtime lifted the visiting Kerry Park Islanders to a 6-5 decision over the host Campbell River Storm, with a crowd of 653 looking on at Rod Brind’Amour Arena.
Carson Brown, Rylan Davis and Bailey Gorman were the other marksmen for Kerry Park, now 10-4-1 for third spot in the South, and netminder Ethan Taylor was the game’s first star on his 45 save performance.
Campbell River goals came from Levente Birta with a pair, second star Marshall Curri, who also added an assist, Logan Vigneault and Jacob Kulas. Kaeden Serpa had 24 saves for the North Division leading Storm, who moved to 13-4-2 and 28 points, two up on the Port Alberni Bombers.
Oceanside 2 Lake Cowichan 5
Lake Cowichan Kraken opened up a 3-0 first period lead and never looked back while marching to a 5-2 win over the Oceanside Generals with 143 people in the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena stands.
Emerson de Giacomo, Austin Galway, Brady Croft, Aleksander Leonelli and Cooper Barclay scored the Kraken goals, with second star Tanner Ferrill making 25 saves for the win in goal. Lake Cowichan led 4-2 after the second frame and moved to 3-12-2 on the season, with Kananga Mangala chipping in two assists as he was named the game’s first star, and Gellert Kiss-Molnar the contest’s third star with an assist.
Oceanside, 2-12-2, received 34 saves from goalie Hunter Farrer and goals from Anthony Alexander and Logan Lough.
Victoria 0 Peninsula 1 (OT)
Ethan Lingard started the play and finished it off with a spectacular goal at 1:39 of overtime to give the host Peninsula Panthers a 1-0 win over the Victoria Cougars in a fast-skating cat fight in front of 175 fans at the Panorama Recreation Centre.
Lingard was the game’s third star and scored the winner on a give-and-go from Lukas Preweda. First star Merik Grinaker stopped all 32 shots he faced for the shutout in the Panthers goal, while second star Jesse Pye also had a fantastic game with 38 stops in the Cougars cage.
Peninsula has only lost one regulation game thus far on a 14-1-2 record, while Victoria is 7-8-3 on the year.
