Generals 5 Westshore 4
Week 3 kicked off with a beauty at Juan de Fuca Arena as the Generals edged the Wolves 5-4.
Tristan Jones gave Westshore the early lead minutes into the opening period on Wednesday. Ben Duffin added a power play goal and midway through the first Oceanside found themselves down by a pair.
The early trademark of the Generals this season is that they are a comeback team. They scored 4 unanswered goals by the end of the 2nd. Two from Will Norman and singles from Cage Newans and Captain Landon Dziadyk.
Now it was Westshore’s turn to claw back. Daniel Larson’s first junior goal pulled them to within one before Alex Villa tied the contest at 4.
Greyson Weme scored the Oceanside winner at the 7 minute mark of the third.
Larson and Weme were the game stars.
Nanaimo 6 Comox Valley 1
At the Pirate Ship on Thursday (the 19th), the Nanaimo Buccaneers and Comox Valley Glacier Kings met for the second time this season.
They exchanged goals in the opening period, Nico Kane with his first in the VI for the Buccaneers and Tanner Roberts with a SHG for the G-Kings.
The Buccaneers came out firing in the second period scoring 5 times. Connor Stephenson, Tate Roulette, Kyler Shmigelski, Ben Coughlan and Dylan Tonks all found the back of the net.
No scoring in the third, as the Buccaneers skated to a 6-1 win.
Malcom Patry earned his first win in the VI for the Bucs making 27 saves.
The stars of the game were Shmigelski and Roberts.
Victoria 8 Saanich 1
Cameron LeSergent scored four straight in the 3rd period enroute to an 8-1 Victoria drubbing of the Saanich Braves on Thursday at the Arch.
Dayton Clarke scored the lone goal for Saanich late in the second after they conceded the first four goals of the contest to the Cougars.
Other Victoria goals came from Spencer Golden, Johnaton Esposito, Evan Easton and Nathan Goliath with the eventual winner.
Steven Reid earned the victory, his second of the season.
LeSergent and Clarke were the game stars.
Peninsula 5 Buccaneers 2
On Friday at the Panorama, the Panthers were defending their perfect record against the Buccaneers. It took a while but they began finding the net in the second.
Goals from Alexander Benger and Josh Lingard with a pair including the eventual winner.
Mackenzie Benn-Wipp and Luc Pelletier, with his 4th of the season, capped off the Panthers’ scoring.
Nanaimo goals came from Connor Stephenson and Dylan Tonks.
Lingard and Stephenson were the game stars.
Campbell River 5 Oceanside 3
The Storms’ leading point getter, Owen Christensen, scored the winner as Campbell River downed the visiting Oceanside Generals 5-3, Friday night at the Brindy.
This was a much anticipated early season meeting of the North Division rivals.
Also scoring for Campbell River, Josh Pederson with 2; Brendan Murray and Keenan Toal with singles.
Landon Dziadyk, Cage Newans and Dawson Heathcote scored for Oceanside.
Knute Loe made 41 saves, in his first start and first win of the season.
Pederson and Heathcote were the game stars.
There were 3 games on Saturday.
Generals 4 Braves 2
The Oceanside Generals and Saanich Braves met for the first time this season on Saturday night in Parksville.
The Generals opened the scoring on the PP late in the first period when Landon Dziadyk buried one from in close.
The Generals went up 3-0 early in the second before the Braves struck on the PP. Ryan Strange found the back of the net for the third time this season to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Saanich made things very interesting in the third when rookie Treyh Sidaway took a feed in the slot from Foster Martin to make it 3-2.
Rookie Cage Newans sealed the deal on the power play, with a little over two minutes to play, for the 4-2 Gens’ victory.
Other Oceanside goals were from Greyson Weme and Elijah Goyer.
Braves netminder Connor Svienson made 21 saves and Cedric Rechsteiner made 26 stops for the Generals.
Weme and Strange were the game stars.
Cougars 6 Kerry Park 2
A five minute major late in the first allowed the Cougars to find the net 3 times before it expired and they were well on their way to a 6-2 win over the Kerry Park Islanders Saturday night.
Davis Frank scored twice, Matt Clark, Evan Easton and Zack Guerra, the Victoria goal scorers.
Owen Louie and Colten Thompson rippled the twine for the Isles.
Brett Anderson earned the win, while Nick Haisell took the loss facing 50 shots.
Campbell River Storm 5 Comox Valley 2
Grady Franklin’s first goal in junior hockey was the winner as the Campbell River Storm left Courtenay Saturday night with a 5-2 win over the Glacier Kings.
Owen Christensen, Pearce Messer, Cody Savey and Josh Pederson with the other Storm markers.
Glacier King goals came from Tanner Roberts and Grady Robertson; a shortie for Grady.
Game stars were Roberts and Christensen.
Week 3 came to a close on Sunday with just one game.
Panthers 6 Braves 2
On Sunday, the Braves and Panthers battled hard for 40 minutes until Peninsula kicked it into overdrive with four goals extending their undefeated streak to 6 games to start the season. They were 6-2 winners over Saanich at the Pearkes.
Scoring for the Panthers…Thomas Spink, Jack Taylor, Tanner Wort and Matthew Sparrow with two each.
Saanich goals came from former Panthers’ Joe Stafford-Veale and David Edgar.
Chris Combiadakis earned the W facing 35 shots, while at the other end of the ice, Robert Michetti was bombarded with 52 pucks at net.
Week 4 starts Wednesday (Sep 25) as the Westshore Wolves play their first home game of the season at the Q-Centre. The Saanich Braves are the visitors.
