Lake Cowichan 1 Campbell River 2
Elliott Turgeon’s goal at 16:38 of the third period gave the hometown Campbell River Storm a 2-1 decision over the Lake Cowichan Kraken as 505 watched at Rod Brind’Amour Arena.
Turgeon was named third star in a goaltenders’ duel, with Storm keeper Luc Gravel named first star with 24 saves and Kraken netminder Evgeni Tkachenko taking second star with 41 saves.
After a scoreless first period, Landy Johnson gave Lake Cowichan a 1-0 lead before Jack Smith replied to knot the count for the Storm heading into the final frame.
Lake Cowichan remains in top spot in the North Division, one point ahead of the Port Alberni Bombers.
Comox Valley 4 Peninsula 3
Three straight third period goals enabled the Comox Valley Glacier Kings to surge into the lead and they hung on to beat the previously undefeated Peninsula Panthers 4-3 as 111 looked on at Panorama Recreation Centre.
The see-saw battle had the visitors up 1-0 after the first before the Panthers took a 2-1 lead heading into the third. First star Leon Mikhalchuk had a goal and an assist for Comox Valley, who also had tallies from Declan Johanneson, Cameron Collins and Landon Morris and 39 saves from goalie Anthony Ganoung. Defenseman Kyle Mayenburg earned third star honours as the Glacier Kings picked up their second straight win on the weekend.
Second star Oskar Aitken-Salmons, Alex Sajan and Carson Harris scored for Peninsula, as Matus Volovar had 28 stops in net for the Panthers, now in second place in the South Division.
Oceanside 2 Port Alberni 3
Port Alberni Bombers scored the first three goals of the game and hung on to defeat the Oceanside Generals 3-2 as 532 took in the game at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
Joel Dorn was named first star with two goals and McCall Nault had the other tally for Port Alberni, which led 1-0 and 3-2 by periods. Ethan Unger chipped in with two assists and was named second star, and Joseph Naccarato stopped 27 shots for the win in goal.
Third star Seth Corlazzoli and Braylon Becker had the Oceanside markers and Ethan Suhr stopped 31 shots between the Generals pipes.
