Sept. 27: Glacier Kings Cool Bucs In The Comox Valley

First star Zaya Morro potted a hat trick and the Comox Valley Glacier Kings potted five straight goals to cool the Nanaimo Buccaneers 5-3 at the Comox Valley Sports Centre in Saturday night VIJHL play.

Declan Johanneson and Isaac Dunsire had the other goals for the hosts, who led 3-1 and 4-1 by periods and received 33 saves from netminder Anthony Ganoung. Kyle Mayenburg added two assists and was named third star.

Second star Ethan Nordli, Madden Cruickshank and Koen Gauthier scored for the Bucs, backstopped by 40 saves from goalie Aaron Pichette.

Lake Cowichan 1 Oceanside 3

A third period surge enabled the Oceanside Generals to march to a 3-1 come from behind victory over the Lake Cowichan Kraken in front of 489 fans at Oceanside Place.

First star Ryder Bradford scored the first Oceanside goal in the third period on a one-timer from the slot, set up Braeyen Newans for his snap shot marker that was the eventual game winner, and assisted on Ryken Lay’s empty netter to lead the way for the Generals, with netminder Andreas Bylerius stopping 31 shots for the win in net to be named second star of the contest.

Kieran Prichett opened the scoring for Lake Cowichan in the first, and Alfie Blakely earned third star with 26 saves in the Kraken cage.

Lake Cowichan remains in first place in the North Division at 5-2.

Saanich 3 Kerry Park 2

First star Elijah Kim scored twice and the Saanich Predators jumped out to a 3-0 lead and managed to hold on and edge the Kerry Park Islanders 3-2 at Kerry Park Arena.

Maxime Simard had the other goal for the Predators, who led 2-0 and 3-1 by periods with Jacob Walsh stopping 28 pucks for the win.

Second star Nate Grinevitch and Benjamin Stocks had goals and third star Hudson Closson added an assist for the Islanders, with goalie Joshua Dubreuil making 42 saves on the night.
