Sept. 21: Cougars Down Bombers In Overtime

Simon Semancik scored at 6:17 of overtime to give the host Victoria Cougars a 4-3 win over the Port Alberni Bombers in Sunday VIJHL action in front of 165 spectators at Archie Browning Arena.

Semancik, who also had two assists, was named third star of the game, which Victoria led 2-0 after the first before the Bombers came back to knot it at 2-2 heading into the third period. First star Joseph Melichar, Jacob Bernardo and Grady Slugget had the other goals for the Cats, as Jesse Pye stopped 22 shots for the win in goal.

Ethan Unger, Jeremy Gould and Quinn Bouchard tallied for Port Alberni, with netminder Xavier Hahn turning in an outstanding performance with 40 saves to earn second star honours.

Saanich 5 Lake Cowichan 7

First star Aleksander Leonelli had a hat trick to lead the bagged a pair of goals to lead the Lake Cowichan Kraken to a 7-5 victory over the Saanich Predators at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena.

Lake Cowichan led 2-1 and 4-3 by periods, and had two goals from second star Iaroslav Morozov and singles from Toby Johnson and Landy Johnson. Alfie Blakeley stopped 36 shots in the Kraken cage.

Lyndon Tung, Bryce Kohler, Shandon Riopel, third star Maxime Simard and Elijah Kim had the goals for the Predators, who had 34 saves from goalie Jacob Walsh.
