Sept. 12: Predators, Kraken, Storm & Panthers Earn Wins

Comox Valley 0 Saanich 3

George Jantz kicked out 47 shots and was named first star of the game, backstopping the Saanich Predators to a 3-0 shutout of the Comox Valley Glacier Kings in Friday night VIJHL play at George Pearkes Arena.

Second star Travis Swanson with two, and Von Parsons into an empty net had the other goals for the Predators, who had three assists from third star Elijah Kim in a contest they led 1-0 and 2-0 by periods.

Anthony Ganoung blocked 30 pucks in the Glacier Kings cage.

Victoria 5 Lake Cowichan 6 (OT)

Kaden Bilajbegovic scored his third goal of the game at 9:22 of overtime and was named first star of the game to give the Lake Cowichan Kraken a 6-5 decision over the Victoria Cougars at Cowichan Lake Sports Arena.

Second star Landy Johnson with two goals and an assist, and Logan Walz with one were the other marksmen for the Kraken, who saw Alfie Blakeley make 39 stops in the Lake Cowichan net.

Victoria led 2-1 after the first period, and the second frame ended in a 4-4 tie.

Third star Joseph Melichar had two goals, Simon Semancik, Caydan Arsenault and rookie defenseman Quintin Bortolotto scored his second goal in two games for the Cougars, who had 37 saves from goaltender Lane Maarhuis.

Port Alberni 4 Campbell River 5

First star Dylan Toth scored twice and second star goaltender Matteo Scotto di Pompeo blocked 50 shots to help the host Campbell River Storm soar to a 7-4 decision over the Port Alberni Bombers in front of 704 fans at Rod Brind’Amour Arena.

Campbell River led 3-1 and 5-3 by periods, and their other goals came off the sticks of Noah Spencer, Tom Marguet, Aryx Siefker, Tommaso Konig and Ryan Tanner.

Third star Quinn Bouchard and Jeremy Gould each had two goals for the Bombers, who had a 49 save effort from goalie Joseph Naccarato.

Kerry Park 1 Peninsula 9

A six goal third period including three goals from first star Carson Harris helped the Peninsula Panthers push their record to 3-0 with a 9-1 victory over the Kerry Park Islanders at the Panorama Recreation Centre.

Peninsula led 3-1 after the first and second periods, and also had two goals from second star Liam Byrne, and single tallies from Ben Swan, Oskar Aitken-Salmons, Ben Rowan and Paco Hodgson. Third star Jacob Caron had four assists, and goalie Matus Volovar had nine saves in the Panthers net.

Nick Scott had the Islanders goal, with netminder Joshua Dubreuil making 52 saves in the contest.
