Port Alberni 6 at Nanaimo 2
Port Alberni Bombers scored the first three goals of the game and cruised to a 6-2 win over the host Nanaimo Buccaneers in opening night Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League action before 340 fans Thursday night at Nanaimo Ice Centre.
Sean Richards had a goal and two assists, while Leim Smith, Elliot Kuprash, Grayson Salmon, Luke Ridgway and Joel Dorn added singles for the Bombers, who led 2-0 and 5-1 by periods. Solstice Tennant added two assists and was named the game’s first star. Ken Stalder and Rylan Clark had the goals for the Buccaneers, who were outshot 25-17 on the night.
Evan Grant earned the win in the Port Alberni goal, while Tristin Stephens and Darian Feser shared the net for Nanaimo.
Kerry Park 3 at Victoria 1
Cameron Lott had a goal and assist to lead the Kerry Park Islanders to a 3-1 victory over the Victoria Cougars Thursday night at Archie Browning Arena.
Carson Brown and Jacob Morrison also tallied for the Islanders, who led 2-0 and 3-0 by periods.
Nick Scott’s third period goal broke the shutout of Kerry Park goalie Ethan Barron, who stopped 36 of 37 shots on the night. Lane Maarhuis blocked 22 shots in the Victoria net.
