Saanich 7 Kerry Park 3
Travis Swanson had three goals and an assist and was named first star while leading the Saanich Predators to a 7-3 decision over the Kerry Park Islanders in Friday night VIJHL action in front of 163 fans at George Pearkes Arena.
Maxime Simard, Boston Cripps, Elijah Kim and Matthew Anderson had the other goals for the Predators, who led 1-0 and 4-1 by periods and received a 34 save effort from second star Jacob Walsh between the Saanich pipes.
Third Star Brodie Kenney, Colby Robinson and Colten Roberts were the marksmen for Kerry Park, who had 29 saves from goaltender Joshua Dubreuil.
Westshore 2 Peninsula 7
First star Carson Harris and third star Oskar Aitken-Salmons each fired two goals to help the Peninsula Panthers claw out a 7-2 victory over the Westshore Wolves as 541 fans gathered at Panorama Recreation Centre to watch the Panthers raise their playoff championship banner and distribute rings to last season’s team members.
Alex Sajan, Risto Ringma and Ben Swan also tallied for Peninsula, which led 4-1 heading into the final frame, with the first period ending in a 1-1 tie. Goalie Matus Volovar stopped 21 shots and earned second star honours.
Aiden Wilson had both goals for the Wolves, with netminder Ander Reyes turning aside 44 shots in the contest.
Lake Cowichan 6 Port Alberni 3
Nicolas Kalinocka exploded with three goals in the first period and two assists in the second in a first star performance to enable the Lake Cowichan Kraken to double the Port Alberni Bombers 6-3 at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena.
Second star Kieran Prichett also had five points on two goals and three assists, with Iaroslav Morosov also scoring for the Kraken, which held 3-1 and 6-2 leads by period. Goalie Alfie Blakeley had 35 shots in the Kraken cage.
Port Alberni markers came from Kash Nicklin, Kaydin Halladay and Kaelan Basnett, as goalie Ryan Burroughs stopped 30 pucks in the Bombers net.
Oceanside 4 Campbell River 2
Oceanside Generals never trailed, holding 2-1 and 3-2 period leads, and hung on to best the host Campbell River Storm 4-2 in front of 818 spectators at Rod Brind’Amour Arena.
Goalie Ethan Suhr stopped 40 shots for the Generals and was named first star, while second star Ryken Lay had two goals for Oceanside, who also had Ryder Bradford and Levi Green dent the twine.
Thomas Curri and third star Noah Spencer were the scorers for the Storm, who had 36 saves from netminder Matteo Scotto Di Pompeo.
