VIJHL Playoff Summary – March 20
Campbell River 4 Saanich 1
A strong third period and dominant goaltending were the key ingredients as the Campbell River Storm downed the Saanich Braves 4-1 Wednesday night to take the VIJHL Semifinal series in 4.
Storm Head Coach Mike Wilson decided to give Jaden Little the start between the pipes despite spectacular tending from Aaron de Kok in the first three games. Wilson said before the game that the key to success in long playoff runs is two strong goalies which he feels the Storm have and it was time to get some action for Little. He stopped 39 of 40 shots and was full value for his first playoff win in Junior.
Tyler Chyzowski opened the scoring at 14:10 of the first on a beautiful feed from Josh Pederson. Zach Guerra replied before the first 20 minutes expired.
The winner came in the second period when Darren Hards pounced on a rebound on the powerplay.
In the third Damon Porter and Noah Fladager rounded out the Storm scoring.
Campbell River went 1 for 6 on the power play while Saanich was 0 for 5.
The Games Stars were Pederson and Reid Lindsay.
The Campbell River Storm advance to the league finals for the fifth straight season.
