This Friday, the Peninsula Panthers are asking their fans to arrive to the Panorama Recreation Centre in pink for a cause.
On October 18th, the Peninsula Panthers will face off against the Oceanside Generals in the franchise’s first “Pink the Rink” night.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and the Panthers are dedicating their game night to raising awareness and funds for breast cancer awareness and research.
“The players have been wearing pink laces and tape for the entire month,” said Madelyn Murphy-Homer, minority owner of the Panthers. “It was brought to my attention that this is a cause near and dear to our team, so we began to brainstorm what else we could do.”
The answer was “Pink the Rink.” Fans are encouraged to wear as much pink as possible, with the fan in the most pink winning four Panthers game tickets. The Panthers will also be putting on a silent auction for a Panther game jersey, with all proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society.
“It’s in our mission to show up for our community,” said majority owner Rich Murphy. “If there’s an opportunity for us to show up and do some good for our community, we want to. Hockey is more than a sport – it’s what ties our community together, and is a great vehicle to make impactful change”
When Head Coach/GM Tyler Stanton was asked about the importance of Pink the Rink for the team, Stanton didn’t hesitate to express the importance of this special event for the team and wider community.
“Pink the Rink night is special to all I would say, as everyone has or knows either a family member or friend who has battled breast cancer. Any time we can represent, give back and raise money to hopefully one day have a cure for the problem, it’s our honor and privilege to do so.”
Come support the Peninsula Panthers and help raise awareness and funds for breast cancer awareness at Pink the Rink night, Friday October 18th at the Panorama Recreation Centre. Puck drops at 7:30pm this Friday.
