Oct. 4: Wolves, Cougars, Storm & Bombers Triumph

Westshore 5 Comox Valley 1

Westshore Wolves took a 2-0 lead in the first period and never trailed enroute to a 5-1 VIJHL victory over the Comox Valley Glacier Kings at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.

Parker Atkinson, tied for the league scoring lead with 22 points with Joseph Melichar of Victoria, had a goal and two assists for Westshore and was named first star, with Wolves netminder Ander Reyes stopping 30 shots for second star honours. Rowan Brodie-Rafuse, Kansys Seney, Jasper Fellbaum and Owen Hentschel had the other goals for the winners.

Cohen Kallin had the lone Glacier Kings marker, with netminder Timothee Fengos stopping 46 shots and was named third star.

Nanaimo 5 Victoria 7

A trio of late third period goals gave the Victoria Cougars a 7-5 decision over the Nanaimo Buccaneers in front of 180 spectators at Archie Browning Arena.

All three stars came from the Cougars, with the first being Simon Semancik with two goals and two helpers, second Tyler Delli-Carri with a goal and two assists, and third Jacob Bernardo with a goal and three apples, as the other goals for the Cougars came from Haydyn Brooks with two Jordan Ramsay one. After a first period 1-1 tie, Victoria led 4-3 heading into the final frame, and Jesse Pye took the win in goal with 20 saves.

Nanaimo’s goals came from Jaxin Karst, Jack Barrett, Lukas Needham, Madden Cruickshank and Quintus Mah. Goalie Aaron Pichette finished with 29 saves.

Campbell River 3 Oceanside 2

Emmanuel Grenier’s power play at 14:49 of the third period was the winning marker in a 3-2 Campbell River Storm win over the Oceanside Generals as 405 watched at Oceanside Place.

Oceanside led 2-0 after the first period on goals by first star Max Boyle and second star Billy Snyder, as Braeyen Newans had an assist and was named third star. Ethan Suhr managed 35 saves in the Generals net.

Campbell River came back to tie the contest 2-2 in the second, and had their other tallies from Holden Smith and Tom Marguet, with Luc Gravel taking the decision between the pipes on a 36 save effort.

Port Alberni 3 Kerry Park 2

Port Alberni Bombers never trailed while taking a 3-2 victory over the winless Kerry Park Islanders with 124 fans taking in the game at Kerry Park Arena.

Second star Kash Nicklin, Makhi Wandler and Chase Pouchnik were the Bombers marksmen as Port Alberni led 2-1 and 3-2 by periods. Ryan Burroughs took the decision in goal with 20 saves.

Third star Wade Enger and Liam Downie scored for the Islanders, with Nate Grinevitch being named the first star and Joshua Dubreuil making 43 saves during the game.
