Oct. 25: Panthers Nip Buccaneers In Overtime, Back On Top

Alex Sajan scored on a power play at 2:56 of overtime to give the Peninsula Panthers a 5-4 victory over the Nanaimo Buccaneers in a Sunday afternoon VIJHL matinee watched by 245 spectators at Nanaimo Ice Centre.

With the victory, Peninsula (13-1-1) moved into a first place tie in the South Division with the Westshore Wolves with 27 points, although the Panthers have played one less game. Nanaimo (8-5-1) earned a point and is in third spot in the North with 17 points.

Luke Christensen, Cole Sather, Liam Byrne and Jacob Eddy on a late third period power play that tied the game scored for the Panthers, which trailed 4-3 after two periods, following a 2-2 first period tie. Third star of the game was Logan Barnes, who had two assists, and Caden Lentz earned the win in goal with 18 stops.

Jaxin Karst put in a first star performance with two first period goals, the first on a rebound and the second on a rifle-like top shelf wrister, and second star Nate Barclay and Dreyton Howard had the other markers for the Buccaneers, who had 38 saves from goalie Aaron Pichette.
