Saanich 2 Comox Valley 4
A goal and two assists from first star Westin Churchill helped the Comox Valley Glacier Kings ice the Saanich Predators 4-2 in Saturday night VIJHL action at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.
Elliot Lee, Kingston Gowans and Isaac Dunsire into an empty net had the other goals for the Yetis, who after a 1-1 first period tie, led 3-1 heading into the third. Netminder Anthony Ganoung stopped 38 shots and was named second star, and Comox Valley pulled into a tie for third place in the North Division with the Port Alberni Bombers with 15 points.
Josh Yolkowski had both goals for the Predators, with goalie George Jantz picking up third star honours with a 52 save effort.
Lake Cowichan 3 Oceanside 4
Oceanside Generals had all of its goals sandwiched in between Lake Cowichan scores and they hung on to beat the visiting Kraken in front of 199 at Oceanside Place.
First star Ryder Bradford shorthanded, Jacob Leamy, Jacob Bate and defenseman Levi Green were the Generals marksmen, as Max Green had two assists and was named second star, and Ryken Lay third. Ethan Suhr stopped 19 pucks for the win, as Oceanside jumped up into a first place tie in the North with 18 points, although the Campbell River Storm has one game in hand.
Jaxon Woodward, Cole Fedorovich and Toby Johnson scored for the Kraken, which received 34 saves from Alfie Blakeley.
Port Alberni 3 Kerry Park 4
First star Reece Miyoshi scored twice to help the Kerry Park Islanders record their first win of the season with a 4-3 decision over the Port Alberni Bombers at Kerry Park Arena.
After a 1-1 first period deadlock, the Islanders scored three goals in the second to lead 4-1 heading into the final frame. Kerry Park’s other goals from second star Tomasz Ptaszek and Nate Grinevitch, with Hagan Purinton adding two assists to earn third star recognition. Carter Puska stopped 43 attempts between the Islanders’ wickets.
Rylan Clark in the first period and Malik Oliva with two in the third were the goal scorers for Port Alberni, who had 25 saves from Joseph Naccarato.
