Kerry Park 3 Saanich 5
A three point night on two goals and an assist by second star Elijah Kim and a 31 save effort from first star goalie George Jantz powered the Saanich Predators to a 5-3 win in Friday night VIJHL play over the Kerry Park Islanders at George Pearkes Arena.
Boston Cripps, Evan Kim and Josh Yolkowski had the other goals for the Predators, who led 3-2 heading into the third period after the first frame ended in a 1-1 tie.
Third star Parker Lawrence with two goals and Reece Miyoshi with one replied for the Islanders, with Joshua Dubreuil stopping 33 shots between the pipes.
Oceanside 4 Port Alberni 3
Three third period goals enabled the Oceanside Generals to bring down the Port Alberni Bombers 4-3 as 394 took in the game at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
First star Kaiden Day, Jacob Bate, Ryken Lay and Kieran McMillan were the Generals’ marksmen, and netminder Andreas Bylerius stopped 32 shots to earn the victory. Oceanside climbed into a tie for second place in the North Division standings with Nanaimo at 16 points, although Nanaimo has two games in hand.
Second star Troy Zajac, third star Kash Nicklin and Malik Oliva in the last minute scored for the Bombers, with Ryan Burroughs blocking 35 pucks on the night.
Lake Cowichan 2 Campbell River 6
Second star Elliott Turgeon had a hat trick and Campbell River Storm led 2-0 and 3-2 by periods enroute to a 6-2 decision over the visiting Lake Cowichan Kraken at Rod Brind’Amour Arena as 516 people watched.
Hudson Davidson, Rylan Krawietz and Jack Smith each dented the twine for the Storm, which regained sole possession of top spot in the North with 18 points. First star goalie Luc Gravel stopped 46 shots for the victors. Tommaso Konig was named third star.
Kadin Bilajbegovic and Iaroslav Morozov counted markers for the Kraken, with Evgeni Tkachenko finishing with 40 saves.
Victoria 2 Peninsula 3
Peninsula Panthers led 1-0 and 3-0 by periods and hung on to claw past the Victoria Cougars as 265 spectators watched at the Panorama Recreation Centre.
Second star Oskar Aitken-Salmons, Ethan Lingard and Brendan Williams each scored goals for the Panthers, and goalie Matus Volovar, the first star of the contest, came up big with 42 saves to take the win. Peninsula moved to within two points of South Division leading Westshore Wolves which has 27 points, although the Panthers have two games in hand.
League leading scorer Joseph Melichar (37 points) and third star Simon Semancik with 15 seconds left, tallied for Victoria and Lane Maarhuis finished with 32 stops.
