Oct. 2: Buccaneers Down Predators, Tied Atop North

Nanaimo Buccaneers received a goal and an assist each from first star Jaxin Karst and second star Quintus Mah enroute to a 5-2 victory over the Saanich Predators in front of 269 fans at the Nanaimo Ice Centre in Thursday night’s lone VIJHL contest.

Nanaimo never trailed in the match, leading 2-1 and 3-1 by periods and they also had single markers from Kai Verbrugge, Madden Cruickshank and Ethan Nordli into an empty net. Goaltender Adam Ranger stopped 21 shots and was named third star.

Elijah Kim and Luca Porter had the goals for Saanich, which received 34 saves from goalie Jacob Walsh.

The win pushed Nanaimo into a first place tie in the North Division with 10 points, tied with Lake Cowichan Kraken but with a game in hand.
