Saanich 2 Campbell River 5
A trio of third period goals enabled the Campbell River Storm to swamp the Saanich Predators as 617 watched at Rod Brind’Amour Arena in Sunday VIJHL play.
First star Noah Spencer, third star Elliott Turgeon, Aryx Siefker, Ryder Tanner and Armaan Pann scored for the Storm, who pulled away after the first two periods ended 1-1 and 2-2. Matteo Scotto Di Pompeo had 33 shots in a winning effort between the pipes for Campbell River (8-5), which jumped back into first place in the North Division with 16 points, one more than the Port Alberni Bombers.
Kaydin Halladay and Konrad Lorincz had the goals for the Predators, who had an outstanding game from netminder Jacob Walsh, who stopped 47 shots and was named third star.
Nanaimo 4 Lake Cowichan 1
Goaltender Aaron Pichette stopped 39 of 40 shots to earn first star honours as he backstopped the Nanaimo Buccaneers to a 4-1 decision over the Lake Cowichan Kraken at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena.
Kai Verbrugge, Ethan Nordli, Koen Gauthier and Madden Cruickshank had the goals for Nanaimo, which led 2-0 and 2-1 by periods. Lucas Needham added two assists and was named second star of the contest.
Third star Kadin Bilajbegovic had the lone goal for Lake Cowichan, as Alfie Blakeley stopped 36 shots in the Kraken cage.
