Victoria 4 Saanich 3
A pair of third period power play goals, including the winner from first star Jacob Bernardo with 7:35 remaining in the game gave the Victoria Cougars a 4-3 victory over the Saanich Predators in front of 120 fans at George Pearkes Arena in Friday night VIJHL play.
Second star Jordan Ramsay, James Clarke and league leading scorer Joseph Melichar (35 points) had the other goals for the Cougars, who led 1-0 after the first and the second period ended in a 2-2 tie. Lane Maarhuis had 21 stops to earn the victory.
Matthew Anderson, Travis Swanson and Kaydin Halladay scored for the Predators, who had a 30 save effort from third star George Jantz in the Saanich net.
Campbell River 2 Peninsula 4
First star Logan Barnes scored twice to pace the Peninsula Panthers in a 4-2 doubling of the Campbell River Storm as 279 watched at the Panorama Recreation Centre.
Peninsula led 1-0 after the first and second periods and also had tallies from Carson Harris and Luke Christensen into an empty net. Goalie Matus Volovar was named third star with a 26 save effort.
Noah Spencer scored both Campbell River goals in the third period to close the guests to within one of the Panthers with just less than two minutes remaining. Second star of the contest was netminder Luc Gravel who finished with 47 stops in the Storm goal.
Comox Valley 3 Lake Cowichan 1
Three first period goals gave the Comox Valley Glacier Kings a lead they wouldn’t relinquish in a 3-1 victory over the Lake Cowichan Kraken at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena as 210 fans.
Leon Mikhalchuk, Mateo Moro and Landon Morris were the Glacier Kings goal scorers and goaltender Anthony Ganoung was named first star with 52 saves.
Third star Iaroslav Morozov had the lone Kraken goal in the second period and Lake Cowichan goalie Alfie Blakeley earned second star honours while making 41 stops.
