Oceanside 4 Saanich 1
Oceanside Generals overcame a 1-0 first period deficit with four straight goals to down the Saanich Predators 4-1 in Friday night VIJHL action in front of 120 spectators at George Pearkes Arena.
Third star Jacob Bate, Hunter Toth, Kaiden Day and Ryder Bradford into an empty net were the marksmen for the Generals, who had a first star performance from goalie Ethan Suhr, who finished with 29 saves. The game was tied 1-1 heading into the final frame.
Elijah Kim had the lone goal for the Predators, with netminder Jacob Walsh earning second star honours with 34 stops.
Peninsula 6 Port Alberni 0
Brendan Williams notched two goals and was the first star of Peninsula Panthers’ 6-0 blanking of the Port Alberni Bombers as 382 watched at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
Panthers goaltender Matus Volovar stopped all 23 shots he faced for the shutout and was named second star of the contest. Single goals came from Ethan Lingard, Lucas Ananias, Carson Harris and Logan Barnes.
Joseph Naccarato and Xavier Hahn combined for 37 saves in the Bombers goal, and Joel Dorn was named third star.
The start of the game was delayed due to a major vehicle accident in Chemainus, hindering Peninsula’s drive to Port Alberni.
Nanaimo 3 Campbell River 7
A pair goals and two helpers from first star Elliott Turgeon led the North Division leading Campbell River Storm to a 7-3 win over the visiting Nanaimo Buccaneers in front of 807 spectators at Rod Brind’Amour Arena.
Third star Holden Smith had two goals and an assist and Dylan Toth, Armaan Punn and Noah Spencer had single tallies for the hosts, who trailed 1-0 after one period but exploded for six goals in the sandwich frame to lead 6-3 heading into the third. Campbell River goalie Matteo Scotto Di Pompeo finished with 41 saves to earn second star of the game.
Nate Barclay, Porter Williamson and Koen Gauthier had the Nanaimo goals, with Aaron Pichette and Adam Ranger teaming up between the pipes to finish with 28 saves.
Westshore 3 Lake Cowichan 2
First star James Hall finished with 58 saves, enabling the South Division leading Westshore Wolves to earn a 3-2 decision over the Lake Cowichan Kraken in a classic goaltenders duel at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena.
Second star of the contest was Kraken keeper Evgeni Tkachenko who stopped 42 shots, as Lake Cowichan opened the scoring in the first period, which ended in a 1-1 tie, but trailed 3-2 after two stanzas.
Alejandro Snead, Kansys Seney and Shane Fillinger with the eventual game winner scored goals for the Wolves, the top team in the South Division with 21 points, although second place Peninsula holds three games in hand and is in second place with 18 points.
Third star Landy Johnson and Hunter McLean dented the twine for Lake Cowichan.
