Nanaimo 3 Victoria 5
Three third period goals, including two on the power play, powered the Victoria Cougars to a 5-3 win over the Nanaimo Buccaneers in Sunday VIJHL action as 190 spectators watched at Archie Browning Arena.
After a 1-1 first period tie, Nanaimo led 3-2 heading into the final frame before the Cougars onslaught. First star Joseph Melichar had two helpers to push his league scoring lead total to 42 points (18 goals, 24 assists), and Victoria’s goals came from James Clarke, Grady Slugget, Ben Wetterberg, Simon Semancik and Carter Zeeben. Third star Jordan Ramsay added two assists, and goalie Jesse Pye made 17 saves.
Second star Koen Gauthier, Porter Williamson and Jack Barrett had the goals for Nanaimo, with Adam Ranger stopping 32 shots in the Bucs net.
