Nov. 7: Panthers Come Back From Deficit, Down Kraken In Shootout

Westshore 6 Saanich 2

Four second period goals powered the Westshore Wolves to a 5-1 victory over the Saanich Predators in Friday night VIJHL play at George Pearkes Arena.

After Boston Cripps opened the scoring for Saanich in the first period, Westshore (17-2-1) went to work, as the game was tied 1-1 after the opening frame and the South Division leading Wolves were up 5-1 heading into the third.

First star Tyson Schamehorn scored twice and second star Linden Hoskins, Sam Spring,Owen Hentschel and Trace Anderson once apiece for the Wolves, who had 24 saves from goalie James Hall.

Jacob Walsh stopped 31 shots for Saanich, and third star Jason Sekulich closed out the night’s scoring for the Predators.

Kerry Park 2 Port Alberni 8

Port Alberni Bombers broke open a 2-2 tie with six straight goals to down the Kerry Park Islanders 8-2 as 479 watched at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.

First star Cole Campbell scored twice and second star Kash Nicklin, third star Kaeden Morosoff, Joel Dorn, Makhi Wandler, Jaxon Hinchey and Jeremy Gold once each as Alberni led 2-1 and 4-2 by periods, backstopped by 27 saves from goalie Ryan Burroughs.

Nick Scott and Reece Miyoshi had the goals for the Islanders, who had a 50 save effort from netminder Josh Dubreuil.

Peninsula 4 Lake Cowichan 3 (SO)

Peninsula Panthers climbed out of a 3-0 hole to tie the Lake Cowichan Kraken 3-3 in overtime, and pulled out a 4-3 victory in a shootout at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena.

Oskar Aitken-Salmons and first star Brendan Williams both scored in the shootout for the Panthers, with Toby Johnson replying for the Kraken.

Ben Rowan, Markus Nichols and Brendan Williams with the tying marker on a power play with just 21 seconds left in regulation time tallied for Peninsula, which trailed 1-0 and 3-1 by periods.

Second star Iaroslav Morozov, Luke Bennett and Jaxon Woodward had the Lake Cowichan goals, and third star Viktor Dudenkov added three assists.

Oceanside 1 Campbell River 0

First star Braylon Becker’s goal midway through the second period was enough for the Oceanside Generals in their 1-0 shutout of the Campbell River Storm in front of a crowd of 625 at Rod Brind’Amour Arena.

Ethan Suhr stopped all 30 shots he faced to earn the shutout and second star honours, while third star Luc Gravel of Campbell River blocked 32 pucks during the contest.
