Peninsula 9 Comox Valley 2
Peninsula Panthers came roaring out of the gate with six first period goals and went on to down the Comox Valley Glacier Kings 9-2 in Saturday night VIJHL action at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.
Second star Ethan Lingard had two goals, and second star Jacob Caron, Carson Harris, Joe Marranzino, Kalan Dickie, Paco Hodgson, Oskar Aitken-Salmons and Luke Christensen one apiece as Peninsula led 6-0 and 7-0 by periods. Matus Volovar stopped 32 shots to earn the win in goal for Peninsula (19-1-1), which moved back into first place in the South Division with 39 points, one up on the Westshore Wolves who have played three more games.
Leon Mikhalchuk picked up his fourth goal in two games and third star Suhaan Nagra also scored for Comox Valley (11-9-2-1), who had goalies Anthony Ganoung and Silas Dromarsky combine for 25 saves.
Campbell River 3 Oceanside 4
Braeyen Newans’ power play goal at 8:42 of the third period send the Oceanside Generals to a 4-3 decision over the Campbell River Storm as 444 watched at Oceanside Place.
First star Braylon Becker, second star Hunter Toth on a power play and a shorthanded tally by defenseman Levi Green were the other marksmen for Oceanside (14-8-1), who gained sole possession of top spot in the North Division with 29 points. The game was tied 2-2 and 3-3 by periods, and Generals goalie Ethan Suhr stopped 30 shots.
Third star Maxime Simard, Ethan Hill and Dylan Toth scored for Campbell River (10-13-1), and netminder Luc Gravel stopped 33 shots.
Lake Cowichan 3 Port Alberni 1
Nicolas Condon with the winner and Landy Johnson into an empty net scored in the last minute of the third period to give the Lake Cowichan Kraken a 3-1 victory over the Port Alberni Bombers in front of 403 at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.
Viktor Dudenkov scored in the first period and the Kraken (7-14-0-1) led 1-0 after the first and second periods, with third star McCall Nault tying the game in the third period for the Bombers (10-13-1).
Second star Evgeni Tkachenko earned the win with 27 saves in the Kraken cage and first star Ryan Burroughs stopped 38 shots for the Bombers.
Saanich 6 Kerry Park 3
First star Kaydin Halladay fired a hat trick to lead the Saanich Predators to a 6-3 win over the Kerry Park Islanders as 171 fans took in the action at Kerry Park Arena.
Saanich (6-17) led 2-1 and 4-3 by periods and also had goals from Matthew Anderson, Von Parsons and Deegan Panas. Goalie Jacob Walsh finished the night with 33 stops.
Second star Hudson Closson with two and third star Nate Grinevitch with one had the markers for the Islanders (1-21), with netminder Carter Puska blocking 47 shots.
