Port Alberni 4 Saanich 3
First star Kash Nicklin had a goal and an assist as the Port Alberni Bombers held on to beat the Saanich Predators in Friday night VIJHL action in front of 103 fans at George Pearkes Arena.
Port Alberni led 2-0 and at one point 4-1 in the second before Saanich tallied to trail 4-2 heading into the final frame. Second star Malik Oliva, Logan Meyer and Cole Campbell also tallied for the Bombers, and Ryan Burroughs turned aside 32 shots between the pipes.
Kaydin Halladay, Matthew Anderson and third star Deegan Panas has the goals for the Predators, who had netminder George Jantz stop 41 pucks on the night.
Victoria 3 Peninsula 6
Peninsula Panthers scored twice in each period to double the Victoria Cougars 6-3 and climbed back into first place in the South Division.
First star Luke Christensen with two goals and second star Brendan Williams, Ethan Lingard, Ryan Christenson and Oskar Aitken-Salmons one apiece provided the goals for the Panthers (19-1-1). Matus Volovar stopping 24 shots in net for Peninsula, which moved a point ahead of Westshore with 39 points.
Third star Jordan Ramsay, Ben Wetterberg and league leading scorer Joseph Melichar had the goals for Victoria, and Jesse Pye stopped 32 pucks in the contest.
Comox Valley 6 Westshore 2
First star Leon Mikhalchuk fired a hat trick to help the Comox Valley Glacier Kings froze the Westshore Wolves 5-2 in front of 126 at the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre.
Comox Valley (10-9-2-1) led 1-0 and 3-0 by periods, and also received two goals from Westin Churchill and an empty net goal from third star Sheldon Alexander, who added two assists, while second star Anthony Ganoung picked up the win in goal with 34 saves.
Linden Hoskins and Shane Fillinger both scored in the third period and netminder Ander Reyes finished with 21 stops for Westshore (18-3-2).
Oceanside 7 Lake Cowichan 3
Oceanside Generals fired five goals in the second period and marched back into
a first place North Division tie with the Nanaimo Buccaneers thanks to their 7-3 victory over the Lake Cowichan Kraken at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena.
First star Braeyen Newans had a goal and two assists and Max Boyle, Jacob Bate, Ryder Bradford, Seth Corlazzoli, Braylon Becker and Jacob Leamy had a goal apiece and received a 28 save effort from netminder Andrea Bylerius, named the third star. Oceanside (13-8-1-1) matches the Buccaneers with 27 points, although Nanaimo holds a game in hand.
Nicolas Kalinocka, Toby Johnson and second star Diezel Wyton were the Lake Cowichan marksmen, and Alfie Blakeley finished with 36 stops in the Kraken cage.
