Nov. 15: Westshore, Oceanside Wins Earn Them First Place Division Ties

Three unanswered second period goals powered the Comox Valley Glacier Kings crown the Kerry Park Islanders 5-1 in Saturday night VIJHL action at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.

First star Teagan Clayton with two and a helper, Landon Morris, Landon May and Gavin Munro were the marksmen for the Yetis, with second star Silas Dromarsky earning the win in goal with 30 saves. Westin Churchill had two assists to earn third star honours, and Comox Valley evened their record at 9-9-1 to move into a third place tie in the North Division with Port Alberni with 21 points, but the Bombers have a game in hand.

Benjamin Stocks had the goal for the Islanders, who had 39 saves from netminder Joshua Dubreuil.

Nanaimo 0 Oceanside 3

Oceanside Generals goaltender Ethan Suhr earned first star honours as he blocked all 32 shots he faced while picking up his second straight shutout of the Nanaimo Buccaneers in a 3-0 decision at Oceanside Place.

Max Boyle in the second period and Ryken Lay on a third period power play and Jacob Bate into an empty net in the last minute scored for the Generals, as Oceanside (12-8-1) moved back into a first place tie at the top of the North Division with Nanaimo (12-7-1) at 25 points, although the Bucs have a game in hand.

Adam Ranger finished with 17 stops in the Nanaimo goal.

Westshore 4 Victoria 5

A pair of goals from first star Ben Wetterberg helped the Victoria Cougars claw past the Westshore Wolves 5-4 at Archie Browning Arena.

Third star Simon Semancik with the eventual game winner, Pierson Main and Brady Williams were the other goal scorers for Victoria, who also had two assists from second star Jordan Ramsay. Jesse Pye stopped 24 shots between the pipes for the Cougars.

Shane Fillinger, Christophe Giguere, Jasper Fellbaum and Linden Hoskins scored for Westshore, and goalie Ander Reyes finished with 22 saves for Westshore (18-3-1), now tied with Peninsula atop the South Division with 37 points, although the Panthers have played two fewer games.
