Nov. 1: Panthers Persist In Pounding Opponents, Score 23 Weekend Goals

Peninsula 11 Comox Valley 1

Peninsula Panthers finished off a pair of weekend games with a powerful 11-1 trouncing of the Comox Valley Glacier Kings in Saturday night VIJHL play at the Comox Valley Sports Centre – the night after they poured 12 goals past the Oceanside Generals.

Peninsula led 6-1 and 10-1 by periods, and were led by five points from captain Ethan Lingard, including three goals, who was named third star of the game, and second star Alex Sajan, who chipped in a goal and three assists. The other Panthers goals came from Logan Barnes with two and singles from Luke Christensen, Carson Harris, Brendan Williams, Oskar Aitken-Salmonsand Joe Marranzino. Goalies Matus Volovar and Colton Pyle combined to make 17 saves.

Peninsula, which has only lost one regulation loss this season, moved into a first place tie in the South Division with 31 points, although they have a game in hand over the Westshore Wolves.

Landon Morris had the lone Glacier Kings marker, and Silas Dromarsky and Timothee Fengos stopped 30 shots in the Comox Valley net.

Port Alberni 2 Oceanside 4

First star Levi Hollatz stopped 29 shots to backstop the Oceanside Generals to a 4-2 doubling of the Port Alberni Bombers at Oceanside Place in Parksville.

The win pushed Oceanside’s record to 9-8 for 18 points, and a share of second spot in the North with Campbell River.

Second star Jacob Leamy scored twice as Oceanside overcame a 1-0 deficit from the first period with three second period markers. Seth Corlazzoli and Braeyen Newans had the other Generals tallies, and Colton Howell was named third star.

McCall Nault scored the first goal of the game and Logan Meyer the last for Port Alberni, with netminder Xavier Hahn finishing with 22 stops.

Nanaimo 7 Kerry Park 0

A pair of goals and an assist from first star Porter Williamson led the way in the Nanaimo Buccaneers’ 7-0 shutout of the host Kerry Park Islanders at Kerry Park Arena.

With the win, Nanaimo (10-5-1) opened up a three point lead atop the North Division with 21 points, and has a game in hand over the Oceanside Generals and Campbell River Storm. They led 1-0 and 5-0 by periods, and their other goals came from second star Nate Barclay, Jaxin Karst, Koen Gauthier, Rhys Wilcox and Casey Rutland. Aaron Pichette earned the whitewash by stopping 14 pucks.

Third star of the contest was Kerry Park backstop Carter Puska, who stopped an amazing 68 shots in the game.
